POSITION OPENING
The Watauga County Register of Deeds Office is accepting applications for the position of Deputy Register of Deeds. Under regular supervision, position provides requested information to the public in person or by phone, mail or email; enters data into computer database and searches database for records; maintains records and files; reviews, records and indexes legal documents relating to real property such as deeds, deeds of trust, agreements, plats, etc.; collects and receipts funds for recording fees and other services; records, indexes and provides certified copies of birth, death, marriage, and military discharge records; and issues marriage licenses. Duties also include assisting with daily deposit; processing incoming and outgoing mail; scanning and copying records; preparing reports; assisting with a variety of operational and bookkeeping processes and other duties as required. Work requires a high level of accuracy in details and the ability to learn procedures, standards and general statutes governing the Register of Deeds office; the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public; working in a fast-paced environment; skill in composing correspondence and typing accurately; and operating computers and office machines effectively. Position requires graduation from high school, prior office experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Real estate/legal assistant or administrative assistant experience helpful. Salary range $45,564 - $50,235 depending on experience and qualifications.
