POSITION OPENING
The Watauga County Sanitation Department is accepting applications for the position of Operations Services Director. Under limited supervision, position performs difficult advanced technical work managing the collection of refuse and related activities, supervising the recycling and waste reduction programs, maintaining records and files, preparing reports, and related work as apparent or assigned. Position plans, directs and supervises the activities of the County transfer station, solid waste collection, recycling operation and animal control; recruits and selects department personnel; maintains all budgetary and fiscal operations of the department; oversees operation, maintenance and repair of all department equipment; and develops County projects outside of the department. This work requires the frequent exertion of up to 100 pounds of force and occasional exertion of over 100 pounds of force. Position requires comprehensive knowledge of current practices, methods and procedures for collection, sorting and marketing recyclable materials; comprehensive knowledge of local, State and Federal regulations relating to landfill operations; ability to review and analyze plans and specifications for the operation, maintenance and construction of facilities; and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates, contractors, government officials, regulatory agency representatives, and the general public. Position requires Associates/Technical degree with course work in environmental science or related field, and considerable experience in landfill management, or any combination of education and experience which provide the required skills. Salary grade 17, $63,000 - $78,750. County benefit package includes health insurance, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave.
