POSITION OPENING
Watauga County is accepting applications for the position of Communications Division Chief. Position is responsible for directing the operations of the County's Emergency Communications Center, including supervision of a staff of telecommunicators providing twenty-four hour emergency communications, and developing short term and long range plans for equipment and systems needs for the County. Duties include personnel management, scheduling, training, and performance evaluation; establishing policies and procedures; and coordination with a broad variety of agencies served and vendors. Additionally, position collects and maintains statistics for various emergency services agencies; prepares proposed expenditures for Communications Division budget; oversees Quality Assurance Program; and supervises the 911 Services Coordinator and assists with his or her duties as required. Position also performs all duties of Telecommunicator receiving, classifying, processing and dispatching emergency service calls when required. Position requires thorough knowledge of related industry, organization, and department policies, practices, and procedures; comprehensive knowledge of the methods and procedures of operating communications systems and thorough knowledge of County geography. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school with ten years’ experience in telecommunications work, or a Bachelor’s degree and at least five (5) years of supervisory work required.
