Little League Umpires are needed for Watauga County Parks and Recreation's youth baseball and fast pitch softball programs. Watauga County Parks and Recreation will host a 2-day clinic on Saturday, April 6 – Sunday, April 7 at the Optimist Clubhouse in Boone to train umpires. Attendance on both days is mandatory. Those who wish to umpire Little League Baseball or Little League Fast Pitch Softball in Watauga County are required to attend this clinic. This clinic is also open to those who want to umpire in the surrounding counties. The registration fee is $25 per person, which includes a rulebook, casebook, class materials, and lunch on Saturday. Watauga County Parks and Recreation offers a Soccer Officiating Clinic in the fall for anyone wanting to officiate youth soccer games for Watauga County Parks and Recreation. Attendence to this 3-day clinic is required in order to officiate soccer for WCP & R. The season runs from early September through early November. Games are played Monday – Friday at 5:30 pm or after and on Saturday mornings between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm. The work schedule is flexible, but officials should be available to work most Saturdays. Officials must work well with kids, have knowledge of soccer, and be able to control all aspects of the game environment. The clinic will be held at the Optimist Clubhouse in Boone on Saturday, August 24 from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm; Sunday, August 25 from 1:30 pm – 4:30 pm; AND Tuesday, September 3 from 5:00 pm – 9:00 pm. Pre-registration for the class is required. The cost of the clinic is $25 per official and may be paid the day of the clinic. Officials will be provided a rule book, class materials, warning cards, officiating shirt, and lunch on Saturday. Officials are paid per game. ASA Softball Umpires are needed for Watauga County Parks and Recreation’s Adult Slow Pitch Softball League. Softball games are played Monday through Friday between 6:00 pm and 11:00 pm. Work schedule is flexible. Pay rate is $14 per game. The 2015 ASA Softball Umpire’s Clinic will be held Saturday, March 28 at the Optimist Clubhouse in Boone, NC. This class is mandatory for those who wish to umpire adult slow pitch for Watauga County Parks and Recreation. The ASA Softball Umpire Clinic will teach the ASA slow pitch softball rules and positioning mechanics. Pre-registration is required.
