POSITION OPENING

Watauga County Tax Department is accepting applications for the position of GIS Technician II.  Under regular supervision, position assists in maintaining database for GIS system, digitizes data to update parcel splits and subdivisions;  assigns attributes to digital data; assigns new parcels account numbers, deed references, tax codes and acreages; assists in the development and maintaining of mapping data for the County’s website; assists and trains the public in the use of public access computers.  Position requires general knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques and equipment of tax mapping, appraisal and Tax Office operations.  An understanding and background in digital software, (ie. Arc Desktop and ESRI Applications) is preferred. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college with major course work in geography, computer science, or related field, and some experience in Tax Mapping and GIS are preferred.  Must possess a North Carolina Certificate as Tax Mapper, or be able to obtain within one year of employment.  Salary Grade 9, $32,459.  Application deadline is Friday, December 11, 2015.  Apply at NC Works Career Center, 130 Poplar Grove Connector, Boone, NC 28607, (828) 265-5385.  Watauga County is an EEOE.
