DescriptionWatauga County Parks and Recreation is seeking qualified individuals to serve as summer camp counselors for their weekly day camps. Summer Camp counselors may be working at a variety of locations for day camps including but not limited to Hardin Park, Watauga High School, Parkway School, and the new Community Recreation Center. The desired candidate will supervise and plan activities for children ages 5-13 (rising grades 1st through 7th) in a day camp setting. Candidates will serve as impactful mentors and influential leaders in the lives of these children by providing positive reinforcement and a rewarding camp experience. Counselors will be required to work the designated weeks of camp, ranging from 7-10 weeks of summer. Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m., with counselors working an 8-hour shift within that day. Responsibilities will include preparing activity curriculums; setting up class areas prior to the start of camp; cleaning up class areas after camp; leading and engaging children through the activities; supervising children at all times; performing at a high level of energy and enthusiasm. The ability to work with all demographics is required. Ideal candidates shall possess a desire and willingness to make a difference in the lives of children; ensure the security of the facility during operational hours; general cleaning of the facility including bathrooms; exceptional communication with children, parents, teammates, and supervisors; CPR & 1st Aid certification highly recommended; education and 2+ years of experience preferred; friendly, personable, and service-oriented demeanor a must; BSAC certification preferred; any additional childcare certifications, a plus; additional duties as assigned. A background check will be required. Must be 16 years of age or older to apply. This will be a seasonal, part-time position. Hours may include weekday and weekend commitments, as well as early morning, evening, and holiday hours. WCPR staff orientation will be provided. First Aid & CPR certification may be offered. Additionally, Watauga County Parks & Recreation may provide leadership and additional course certifications to exemplary employees.
